| Record Breaking Investment in New Yorks Transportation Infrastructure
Governor Pataki is committed to ensuring that New York States roads, highways, and transportation systems are reliable, safe and affordable.
- Since Governor Pataki took office, construction programs have moved forward at a record pace, initiating more than $11.5 billion of construction projects. This represents a $3.3 billion, or 39%, increase over the last seven years of the previous Administration.
- Governor Pataki improved, renovated, or replaced 1,151 bridges and restored over 20,200 highway miles across the State.
- Governor Patakis unparalleled commitment to our transportation infrastructure has not only improved the condition and safety of our roadways but also stimulated economic growth throughout the State.
- Governor Pataki committed more than $1.7 billion of State funds for work on locally owned roads and bridges, fueling regional economies and helping counties, cities, towns and villages to improve their valuable infrastructure assets.
- Governor Pataki's transit policies have recognized the crucial role mass transportation plays in our State's economy. Under the Governor's leadership, State aid to transit systems increased by nearly $405 million.
- The MTA's MetroCard discounts have saved New Yorkers more than $1.5 billion since 1996.
- The Governor's financial commitment to the MTA, and his support for the "One City, One Fare" initiative, directly contributed to an MTA ridership increase of more than 30%.
